Should Sisonians be alarmed?
Have you noticed the balding mountain on the right side of the highway when you pass by Sison, Pangasinan on the way to Baguio? This is the site of Northern Cement Corporation who have been mining cement here for almost half a century now.

HAR HAR HAR HAR!
Funny thing is that our mayor in Sison has been very vocal about her disgust on people burning their wastes and garbages in their backyards like that one posted in the Sison official website about Pozorrubio’s smoking dumpsite near the boundary in Killo, this would also include outlawing of “uling” (charcoal) production, now these are all smalltime violators and how about the BIG ONE is there anyone in this country like DENR or any competent NGO that is monitoring, inspecting, regulating and assessing how much harm Northern Cement Corporation is creating into our environment?
ARE SISONIANS BEING PROPERLY COMPENSATED FOR THE PAST 40 YEARS OF NCC’s EXISTENCE, ARE WE RECEIVING THE RIGHT TAXES? HOW DO WE KNOW THAT NCC IS NOT POLLUTING THE AIR WE ARE BREATHING THE WATER WE ARE DRINKING?
WE MIGHT BE SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY, DO WE ONLY LOOK AT THE GLASS A HALF-FILLED REPRESENTING ONLY THE MINORITY OF EMPLOYED SISONIANS IN NCC OR THE HONOR OF HOSTING THIS VERY PRESTIGIOUS COMPANY BUT IGNORING THE HALF-EMPTY ONE WHICH IS THE INVISIBLE ENEMY,HEALTH HAZARDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTER.

“Balding mountain” is an underestimation and is not enough to describe the existing condition of our mountain in Labayug since baldness, like in a person’s head do not damage the scalp, skull or the brain.
In this case,as we can actually see on a daily basis, this mountain shows a huge cavity or hole, I heard in the past that this area can still supply NCC with enough coal for a period of 2 or more centuries, so, until when will this destruction continue?

Apo, taga-Crossing ak idi; ngem, adda ak ditoyen Long Beach ita. Kagapgapuk dita ili tayo ket naikomperar ko iti pagilian ti Rosario nga nagprogreso metten itan. Sison deserves more from what it has gotten from NCC; and, NCC has to do better for the town, the people and the environment. What has transpired in the past is a shame. And it is still a big shame on all Sisonians if it continues like this. The people, we, must get together. Now.

There is a similar discussion going on in Facebook. Check out the Sisonian profile. A group is organizing a meeting to discuss how this issue can be raised to the officials of this town. It would be good to share your sentiments in this forum.

Wala naman daw palang dapat ikabahala sa nangyayari sa planta. Eto nga at basahin natin ang kanilang ilathala.

“Former Congressman Mark O. Cojuangco, who is now the official consultant of the new 5th District Representative, took a time out on September 7, 2010 with Mayor Mina Joy C. Pangasinan and staff. Taking a break from the bustles of politics, the former congressman, the mayor and their staff took a walk under towering Acacia trees that densely occupy vast lands in Labayug where the Northern Cement Corporation (NCC) lies. Contrary to the belief of most, the place is a virgin forest that has become the sanctuary for rare birds and animals that are already nearly extinct in nearby barangays.”
May mga comment lang po ako…
