Outstanding Sisonians
As simple as our town might be and even still classified as a third class municipality. It had undoubtedly produced first class individuals who have excelled in their own field of expertise locally and abroad. In honor of these individuals and for them to be our inspiration, this posting is created. So, let’s name these extra ordinary people who soared high and making us proud Sisonians.

First person that comes to my mind is former Mayor Arturo Padua. At the youthful age of 23, he was elected as one of the youngest mayors in the Philippines, the other one was Ninoy Aquino of Conception, Tarlac. Re-elected two year terms as Mayor and was named “Most Outstanding Mayor of the Philippines” and his outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the rebuilding of Sison. He later became the only opposition member of the Provincial Board of Pangasinan, and later became the Majority Floor Leader when the Board was revamped to become a Provincial Assembly (Sangguniang Panlalawigan).
In 1978, a fellow journalist and friend, Jose “Pepito” Aspiras, who was then Philippine Secretary of Tourism, needed a top caliber tourism promoter to handle primarily the “Reunion For Peace,” a tourism project to drum up interest among former veterans to visit the Philippines for sentimental reasons. He was assigned
incharged of the project in North America based at the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco as
Tourism Attache. Achieving commendable results, Secretary Aspiras requested him to prolong his stay in the U.S., and added tourism functions in addition to his primary assignment.

Interesting…but I never heard that name Ninoy Aquino when it comes to our town Sison nor any accomplishments by him. The Aquino that i’ve known are the one that owned the caltex gasoline station. Now I know, thanks.

Interesting indeed….
There are 2 meanings of the word “outstanding” in the English Thesaurus Dictionary:
1)excellent, exceptional,great,important, impressive,special,superior, superlative
2)unpaid,due,payable,pending,remaining,uncollected,unsettled
Okay, let us apply all this (1 & 2) to qualify Ex-Mayor Arturo Padua as “Outstanding Sisonian”.
No. 1 definition)
He is excellent and great alright, no questions;
2x elected mayor (under KBL ba naman during this
period),but any specific legacy or accomplishment
he left for the town of Sison please???…
Solid background indeed: Film Academy of the Phils. president (FAMAS), former board member of Pangasinan affiliated with the rich, influential and powerful Marcos cronies enjoying all vested benefits. Excellent journalist and other “top and juicy” government positions local and abroad like consul gen. or tourism attache (bakit wala siyang ginawa para man lang sana kasama sa mapa ang Sison as one of Phil. tourist destination?)..impressive… satisfying most specially his “search for a greener pasture” and I am sure marami din siyang nahatak para mag-abroad……………… ano ba naman mapapala niya sa Sison kaya give up na siya so now comes the no. 2 definition of “outstanding” which are: unsettled, due, payable, pending pa rin ang asenso ng Sison, because HE/THEY LEFT and NEVER COME BACK TO HELP SISON RISE UP inspite all his God-given talents..tsk! tsk! sayang.. more please…..any other nomination…
October 27, 2009 at 6:35 pm
I think we’re just asked to nominate an outstanding Sisonian here, not to give a lecture on what the word “outstanding” means.
October 28, 2009 at 12:18 am
Thank you for the comment “tagaCentro” please see my clarifications below.
October 26, 2009 at 7:12 am
October 27, 2009 at 2:10 pm
Hanu ka ba lawin? Hindi sya taga-sison! She may have served our fellow Sisonians but it doesn’t reached the heights yet of what we called “Most Outstanding Sisonian..” No offense po to Mayor Kimi, she is doing great for our beloved Sison!
October 28, 2009 at 2:33 am
Eh ikaw, tagasison ka ba? Walang tagaSison na bastos kagaya mo.
October 28, 2009 at 4:26 pm
October 29, 2009 at 4:44 am
“I WOULD LIKE YOU TO SWALLOW AND EXPERIENCE THE TASTE OF YOUR OWN MEDICINE..”
Gumamit ka pa ng “please po”,”adapted lang po”, but you show DISRESPECT AND INSULT, that’s HYPOCRISY! YOU come to your senses, YOU CAN DISAGREE BUT DON’T BE DISAGREEABLE… YOUR VERY LIMITED KNOWLEGE AND “ONE-TRACK MINDED-SUPER-EGOIST-BULLYING-KSP will keep YOU always in trouble especially on this blog.
April 28, 2010 at 4:07 am
October 26, 2009 at 8:47 am
Mr. mannalon, I guess your views and criteria for an “Outstanding Sisonian” is so high since based on your comments, you are trying to differentiate PERSONAL SUCCESS OF A SISONIAN against A REMARKABLE SERVICE to our hometown that has not happened yet based on all stated description of having a 3rd class or 4th class municipality.
It seems to me that you are looking for a hero during this time, impossible!
October 30, 2009 at 1:08 am
Now we are connecting “lawin”, thank you for that sharp mind in analyzing my comment even it is only partial, please see below clarification.
HERO? It is very possible, we have these unsung heroes called “SISONIANS”!!!
E.g.) by-standers,OFWs, engrs.,doctors, caregivers, nurses, farmers, students, teachers, private & govt.employees/officials,some politicians and many more heroic “Outstanding Sisonians” in their own fields). I know and I can see in your message
that “hero in you” (by Mariah Carey) by giving your time to drop by on this blog, speaking out your concern to our Town Sison and fellow Sisonians, YOU ARE HERO.
“CAN’T YOU SEE THAT? SO CONTINUE TO DO SO….”
October 26, 2009 at 8:55 am
Impossible? Then why are you nominating somebody who is still in the process of becoming an “Outstanding Sisonian”, “pag naging 2nd class municipality man lang ang Sison ok sige, “MOST OUTSTANDING SISONIAN” na siya sa akin.”
October 27, 2009 at 1:56 pm
What the hell are you pointing at Mr. Mannalon? Can you rectify first your idealistic behavior before you drop your comment here? kaya nga tinawag na Most Outstanding eh! Come with your senses naman, we are talking about result-oriented individual here. We are nominating people because we know that they contributed not for themselves selfishly but for the welfare of Sison in the eyes of the other Towns. We don’t care if he only contribute a little and not a fruitful legacy as you are expecting to be. What we are conveying here is that–Outstanding Sisonian who made our Town recognizenot only in this town but in whole of the Philippines! Have you ever known Arturo Padua in his times or you just based your negative point of thinking somewhere or someone? Its not worthed brother, you only embarass yourself. Please do not judge like you knew every pages of the book. Or maybe siguro you had a grudge to the Padua family and that is the reason why your Idiosynratic views made possible??
October 28, 2009 at 12:08 am
Now you’re talking “tagasison”, as already clarified below since I am not through with what I tried to point out and you already agreed with me, “thank you” for the “open mind” and dropping by on this blog, sometimes we have to read what we do not want to read to get your attention “at ilabas ang inyong totoong Sisonian attitude, speaking out for our people and our town.
In fairness to the Padua family, I have HIGH REGARD and RESPECT to them, as mentioned and HIGHLIGHTED FIRST in my remarks his extra-ordinary accomplishments as an “outstanding Sisonian” (def. # 1)(an oppositionist cannot point out) , for now I never know any Sisonian who could even reach half of what uncle Art has achieved, he even attempted to go for the senate. Hope we could clone a Sisonian like him.
October 28, 2009 at 2:10 am
Don’t call me brother, my brothers are the REAL SISONIANS WHO KNOWS HOW TO GIVE RESPECT TO OTHER PERSON SPECIALLY THEIR TOWNMATE”, if you don’t agree with our comments, you should have stated specific reasons WHY ON SPECIFIC WORDS,CIVILLY if you are “CIVILIZED ENOUGH”, “it is YOU WHO IS EMBARASSING YOURSELF,because you are acting like a “maniac on the loose trying to distract our site”. You even mentioned “hell”, that is YOUR HOME, YOU GO BACK TO WHERE YOU BELONG, NOT HERE!
October 28, 2009 at 2:14 am
Concerned Sisonian, let us make some “EXORCISM” here, brother of satan intruded our site.
October 29, 2009 at 5:24 am
O yes, I strongly agree with you mannalon, IF THIS so-called “ta(n)gasison” continues to spread his/her garbages on this site that are surely coming from his/her “trashcan brain” or whatever we can call this “lunatic”.
Let us hunt him In all places…and KNOCK him/her DOWN…
October 26, 2009 at 5:59 pm
Pareng Mannalon,
I believe that with the nature of our topic, the second definition that you’ve mentioned doesn’t even belong here. Lawin said it right, “you are trying to differentiate PERSONAL SUCCESS OF A SISONIAN against A REMARKABLE SERVICE to our hometown”. These two are entirely different categories. In this case, we’re referring to individuals who excelled in their field of expertise or have done remarkable achievements not just specifically for Sison. Let’s put it this way… when Mayor Art Padua was named “Most Outstanding Mayor of the Philippines” he was representing our town as well. In every national positions that he held and “affiliations with the rich or influential & powerful individuals” that he dealt with during his time, for sure naka-kabit lagi yung pagiging Mayor niya ng Sison, atleast naririnig at malalaman ng iba na may bayan palang Sison.
Yun lang po ang masasabi ko…
Anyway, this is really getting more interesting guys, let’s keep the ball rolling!
October 27, 2009 at 9:05 am
Okay we are clear on that and thank you for the very constructive reaction “lawin” and Concerned Sisonian, pardon me please for presenting definition #2,I was just trying to show the 2-sides of the coin about “outstanding” which connotes the FIRST side as; “WE ARE PROUD ABOUT SUCCESSFUL PERSONALITIES OF SISON (Sisonians)” and the SECOND: “ARE WE OR AREN’T WE YET PROUD ABOUT SISON?”
Let us then focus on looking for outstanding PEOPLE/PERSONALITIES OF SISON (#1 def.)as clarified, and in my own view SOME would be the solution in solving the true and present state of our town, THE PROBLEM (# 2 def.).
The person I have in mind to be an outstanding Sisonian among all Sisonians is no other than “Dr. Simeon D. Ferraro, for me and surely many of our fellow Sisonians would agree as “the legendary figure of our town Sison”.
“The 24/7 municipal doctor, who cares for the health and well-being of our townmates, treating and even going to the house of the sick and saving lives during emergency situations for many decades now, with that “old toyota landcruiser”, then ” that noisy yellow beetle/volkswagen” and now “mazda” service vehicle, I still see him in his comfortable home outfit whenever I buy “pandesal” at Pob. Cen. near his house.
“He may not have as high accomplishments as others did outside our town, but he surely made a difference in caring and serving most of our fellow Sisonians…”
October 27, 2009 at 2:02 pm
And this will make us both agree Mr. Mannalon! This is indeed a better description of what a truly Sisonian is! I agree in forth of what you have said. “He may not have as high accomplishments but he surely made a difference for caring and serving most of our fellow Sisonians.”
October 28, 2009 at 7:19 am
Here is an unsolicited advise to you tagasison:
“O ayan, eh di nakuntento ka rin, kaya next time before you drop your post eh magrelax ka muna, “gather enough infos, backgrounds, focus on the message, analyze the subject, rather than “emotionally reacting on all our posts and comments, you said don’t judge but you are judging all the contributors of the posts not on the real message.”WAG KA RIN MASYADONG PAPANSIN,NAPAKAYABANG at AROGANTE dahil I’m sure ‘di ka ganyan pinalaki ng magulang mo,this is not the way a true sisonian should be, ginamit mo pa naman ang pangalang “tagasison”, di ka ba nakukunsensya.
CHEERS!
October 28, 2009 at 7:32 am
tweet! tweet!…tukain na kaya kita…
October 27, 2009 at 11:08 pm
Mannalon, I think we’re still not clear on the topic here, focus on individuals whom we can be proud of as a Sisonian, not only within Sison but nationally or even internationally.
With all due respect to Dr. Ferraro, he can be considered as “Outstanding Sisonian” for his remarkable public service to our “kailians”, but he may not be that popular in the medical field of being a physician. How about Dra. Estrelita Pastores-Adan, she’s a very well known doctor at St. Lukes Medical Center in Manila with the specialization in Obstetrics & Gynecology. I’ve heard she’s even the doctor of several known celebrities and the choice of rich personalities who can afford to pay more because of her expertise. That I call exceptional and we can all be proud to say she’s a Sisonian.
October 28, 2009 at 12:30 am
Ok that, that “WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR THE BEST SISONIAN, WE ARE THEREFORE MENTIONING THE LIST OF OUTSTANDING SISONIANS”.
October 29, 2009 at 3:54 am
“O yes, I agree Concerned Sisonian, let us then include on our list Dra. Estrelita Pastores-Adan not as contender, but one in our list of the most considered “OUTSTANDING SISONIANS”, a well-known personality in her field of medical specialization-OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY, without further deliberations or complicated criterias.Later on, we will come up with the COMPLETE LIST SO BEAR WITH US AND DROP YOUR SHARES SISONIANS.
As a backgrounder for Dra. Estrelita Pastores-Adan
I was then in high school when I first saw her during “That’s Entertainment Personalities” who came to Sison in the late 80′s I think. With her is Ms.Lotlot Deleon and Mom Nora Aunor who are both clients/patients and also family friends of Dra. Pastores-Adan whose father is also a former principal of our Sison Central School.
Thank you.
October 29, 2009 at 10:56 am
Okay copy Concerned Sisonian, I am with you this time, aside from those presently based here in the Philippines, is there anyone from our FACEBOOK members we could possibly consider?
e.g.) Ms. Diza, mentioned as partner in the development of that environment-friendly and futuristic Toyota car, “praeus”.
October 29, 2009 at 10:59 am
Ahemm!!Correction please..it’s the car “algaeus” not praeus as mentioned, sorry.
October 30, 2009 at 3:39 pm
Concerned Sisonian,
Your statement:
“I’ve heard she’s even the doctor of several personalities who can afford to pay more because of her expertise. That I call exceptional and we can all be proud to say she’s a Sisonian.”
There is a “BIG FLAW” on this I tell you.
As if your outstanding Sisonian should be A SOCIALLY WELL-KNOWN (matunog ang pangalan)and consequently, HIGHLY PAID so she is EXCEPTIONAL for you?
So goes that your measurement for an “outstanding Sisonians are based on PRESTIGE and PROFIT, right? So considering Dra.Pastores-Adan is already a very prestigious and rich personality, and has already EARNED ALL THE ABUNDANT FRUITS OF HER TALENT AND TITLE without even giving her unselfish contribution or treating a single Sisonian in her hometown and you expect Sison to honor her? WHY??? WOULD YOU THINK SHE COULD ACCEPT THAT???
It is true she naturally came from Sison by birth, and that is her ONLY CONNECTION in this town, off course when a well-know personality asks her address she’d say somewhere inside a prestigious village in Manila.
“You cannot award a mother THE “outstanding mother” award if that mother left her child through the care of another person do you.”
Now, let us see, Dr. Ferraro who does not only have the quality time or appointed time for the people of Sison, BUT A 24 hours a day and 7 days a week availability.
Have all those mentioned personalities done that to SISON?
Outstanding Sisonians SHOULD BE measured on how they have valiantly survived all the challenges in giving their best through thick and thin for Sison and Sisonians without giving her up.
October 31, 2009 at 2:01 am
devilzadvocate,
“SOCIALLY WELL-KNOWN (matunog ang pangalan)and consequently, HIGHLY PAID so she is EXCEPTIONAL for you?” I did NOT say that, you said that. The only reason I said… “doctor of several personalities who can afford to pay more because of her expertise.” Take note of the last word, “EXPERTISE”.
How do you know that she have not treated a single Sisonian? Just because you don’t see her in Sison doesn’t mean that she have not attended to patients from Sison.
October 27, 2009 at 5:39 pm
My 2 cents on this topic:
1. we should have a CRIDIBLE selection committe to handle these.
2. there should be a criteria and category in selection. We nominate any indiviudal any sectors of the society (professionals in any field, farmers, businessmen, healthcare providers, military personnel and etc) living locally or abroad.
3. NO POLITICs behind the selection.
October 28, 2009 at 12:00 am
You hit that right on the head Mr. Taga Poblacion Sentral. I’m with you there, but we’re not here to formally choose who are the qualified individuals for this “Outstanding Sisonian”, as you said “we should have the CREDIBLE selection committee” to decide on that when the time comes. This is just for all of us to contribute/share on who do we think are the qualified candidates for such title.
Anyone you know who should be on this list?
October 27, 2009 at 11:37 pm
October 28, 2009 at 12:23 am
Tumpak!
October 28, 2009 at 3:21 am
“One thing man hasn’t been able to tame is his own tongue. It can cause the most uncontrollable evil in all creation and can spread the deadliest poison. If not disciplined and controlled, one minute it can praise and bless God and the next minute it can curse those created in God’s image.___James 4:8,9, The Clear Word
Cheers SISONIANS!
October 28, 2009 at 9:31 am
Hey I like that maria clara especially that “IF NOT DISCIPLINED AND CONTROLLED”, our Sisonians’ blogsite will strictly enforce this one to avoid “abusive bloggers” like “tagasison” in ruining our forum.
October 29, 2009 at 5:39 am
Well, on the brighter is, boring ang istorya kapag walang “kontrabida” ika nga di ba…
O eh SINONG BIDA?
October 29, 2009 at 5:42 am
“SISONIANS!!! SISONIANS!!! SISONIANS!!!
October 29, 2009 at 9:40 am
OFF COURSE SINO PA EH DI…
“SISONIANS!!! SISONIANS!!! SISONIANS!!!
Back to our topic please…
October 30, 2009 at 4:50 am
Going back to the topic as I’ve mentioned earlier a
1.Credible Selection commitee will be formed.
– I suggest we can have the following as a member of committe:
a. Concerned Sisonian
b. tagasison
c mannalon
d. lawin
c. tagabarrio
d. maria clara
e. taga Central
Rather than arguing, each and everyone on the list is task to give 1 or 2 criteria and category in slelecting a candidate. Consider yourself as a member of the selection committe.
2.selection committee will formulate a criteria, category and guidlines in selection.
I believe the above should put in place before we proceed.
October 30, 2009 at 6:10 pm
I would like to echo this one incase devilzadvocate’s message is censored. NOT DO DOWNPLAY OF OFFEND ANYBODY AND I RESPECT EVERYONE’S STAND, here it goes…
======================================================
To Concerned Sisonian,
Your above statement (referring to Dra. Pastores-Adan): “I heard she’s even the doctor of several personalities who can afford to pay more because of her expertise. That I call exceptional and we can be proud to say she’s exceptional.”
——————————————————
Pls. don’t get me wrong but there is definitely a “BIG FLAW” on this statement, implying that an “outstanding Sisonian” should be “socially well-known” (matunog ang pangalan) and consequently “highly-paid” that made the person exceptional. That the measurement on the look out are based on PRESTIGE AND PROFIT am I right?
Now, considering Dra. Pastores-Adan is now a PRESTIGIOUS AND A WEALTHY personality who already earned all the abundant compensation and fruits of her career and talent without even extending her service to her townmates in dire need AND WE EXPECT SISON TO HONOR HER? WHY? DO WE THINK SHE COULD CONSIDER ACCEPTING SUCH HONOR OF BEING AN “OUTSTANDING SISONIAN”? IN MY OPINION,ONLY THOSE SCHOOLS THAT SHE GRADUATED IN SHOULD GIVE THOSE AWARDS AND NOT SISON, BECAUSE HER SUCCESS IS THE MANIFESTATION OF HER EDUCATION AS A PRACTICING PROFESSIONAL UNLESS SHE BECAME A “SENSATIONAL FIGURE” BECAUSE OF HER “SCIENTIFIC BREAKTHROUGH IN OB-GYNE” LIKE those given to AN INVENTOR.
It is true that she is Sisonian by birth and that is her ONLY CONNECTION to our town, off course when one of her clients asks where she resides she’d say somewhere inside a prestigious village in Manila, not Sison which her bigtime clients do not care.
We cannot award a mother an “outstanding mother” award if the candidate left her child through the care of another person because it doesn’t give the true essence of being a “MOTHER FOR HER CHILD”. “LIKE A SISONIAN FOR HER TOWN SISON.”
Let us then compare this to Dr. Ferraro, who does not only have the quality or appointed time for the people of Sison, but a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week availability in serving Sisonians for the past decades.
“Outstanding Sisonians should be measured on how they have valiantly survived all the challenges in giving their best through thick and thin for SISON AND SISONIANS without giving her up above personal gains.”
And I think “Mr. Mannalon” is right after all. The issue is “not about being outstanding” but “HAVING THE TRUE ESSENCE OF BEING A SISONIAN…”
October 31, 2009 at 12:40 am
lawin,
Censored??? Can’t you see this message above? If I have censored some of your comments in the past, that’s because I found them irrelevant and immature. But, as far as comments that may disagree with my opinion but are very much valid, there’s no reason for me to “censor” them. This is not created just for me but for all Sisonians to freely express themselves about issues concerning our town. This is NOT a competition as to who among us here would be the “best or smartest” based on our individual comments. This is just an open forum for all of us.
In line with this, let me also echo our messages with Taga Poblacion Sentral’s above just in case you have not read it..

If we both disagree with the two individuals being mentioned, so be it! I have my own opinion, you have yours, end of story. Let’s move on…
October 31, 2009 at 1:26 am
Thank you so much Concerned Sisonian, now with that kind of your message you conveyed,”I would definitely double my respect to you, “long live for Sison!”
October 31, 2009 at 7:32 am
It is a “WIN-WIN” situation after all since Concerned Sisonian, “lawin”,devilzadvocate and mannalon represents only 1 particular person “THE SISONIAN” who are serving their town not only through public service, financial or material provider to Sisonians but most especially “HONOR” for our hometown Sison where there are no territorial boundaries.
E.g.)Sisonian OFWs serves their town by supplying the basic needs of their dependents in Sison like food, education shelter and other material or intangible needs of their families in Sison.
There is no disagreement or a collision between the 2 doctors mentioned (Dr. Ferraro and Dra. Pastores-Adan)since they represent both the epitome of an “outstanding Sisonian” in “2 different faces of serving inside and serving outside this town.”
======================================================
NOW, A PARTIAL LIST OF “OUTSTANDING SISONIANS” HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED:
1. Former Mayor Arturo Padua
2. Dr. Simeon Ferraro
3. Dra. Estrelita Pastores-Adan
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.

ahm I’ll recommend Eliezer Sunang who represented the Philippines during SEA Games. He is an athlete from Sagunto and his sport is shotput.

I would like to iclude the names of the late Mr. Librado Torres who was the former principal of Sison Carmelian High School, now Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Academy and also his wife, Mrs. Carmen Torres, who was the former principal of Sison Central School, now Sison CentralI Integrated School.
